A Wayne County man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he placed an open propane tank beneath a running vehicle inside a closed garage, creating a dangerous situation for family members inside the home.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reported that Cody Jon Calabrese, 29, of Savannah, was arrested following the incident, which occurred around 1:57 a.m. April 6.
Investigators said Calabrese, who was believed to be intoxicated, had been involved in an argument with family members earlier in the evening. Authorities allege he opened the valves of two large propane tanks and placed one beneath a running vehicle inside an attached garage, creating what deputies described as a grave risk of death.
Police said Calabrese’s wife, young daughter, and other family members were inside the residence at the time.
He was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, a felony, as well as harassment in the second degree, criminal mischief in the second degree, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Calabrese was taken to the Wayne County Jail for centralized arraignment and later released with orders of protection issued for his wife and daughter. He is scheduled to appear in Savannah Town Court on May 7, with the case expected to be presented to a grand jury.
