Trinkaus’ last-second goal in fourth overtime lifts Syracuse women’s lacrosse past Notre Dame

The Syracuse Orange women’s lacrosse team outlasted the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s lacrosse team, 10-9, in a historic four-overtime thriller on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome, as Caroline Trinkaus scored the game-winning goal with one second remaining. The victory pushed No. 3 Syracuse to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, extending the nation’s longest active winning streak to 12 games in the longest contest in program history.

Trinkaus delivered a career-defining performance, recording a hat trick and adding an assist, including the dramatic winner in the fourth overtime. Ashlee Volpe paced the offense with five points on two goals and three assists, while Gracie Britton contributed a goal and two assists, including the helper on the final score. Syracuse built a 9-6 lead early in the fourth quarter behind a four-goal run that spanned the third and fourth periods, with contributions from Bri Peters, Mackenzie Rich and Trinkaus. But Notre Dame responded with three goals in a four-minute stretch to force overtime, setting the stage for a defensive battle.
