William Smith lacrosse improved to 10-1 on the season and remained unbeaten in Liberty League play with a 19-12 win over Rochester on Saturday at Fauver Stadium, extending its win streak to five games.
Taryn Luzi led the Herons with five goals, while Katie Grottenthaler added four and Grace Rund recorded a hat trick. William Smith’s balanced attack produced 42 shots and controlled possession with a 19-14 edge in draw controls.
After a 3-3 tie through the first quarter, the Herons seized control in the second, scoring five straight goals to build a 7-3 lead. Luzi fueled the run, completing her hat trick early in the period, while Rund and Grottenthaler added key goals to extend the advantage.
William Smith continued to pull away in the third quarter, scoring six goals to push the lead to 16-7 entering the final period. Grottenthaler scored twice in the frame, while Delaney Cassidy and Ally Orquiola contributed during the decisive stretch.
Rochester mounted a late push in the fourth, outscoring the Herons 5-3 behind Alyssa Gorny’s six-goal performance, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Casey Fiore made eight saves in goal for William Smith, while the defense forced key turnovers to limit Rochester’s opportunities. The Herons were also perfect on clears, finishing 15-for-15.
Kira Fulton extended her point streak to 25 games as William Smith continued its strong run through conference play.
The Herons return to action Wednesday, April 9, traveling to face Cornell with the opening draw set for 4 p.m.
