William Smith lacrosse improved to 9-1 on the season and remained unbeaten in Liberty League play with a 17-7 win over Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon at Judson Stadium.
The Herons controlled the game on both ends, outshooting RIT 39-20 and holding the Tigers to a season-low seven goals. William Smith also held advantages in ground balls (20-13) and draw controls (14-12) while going a perfect 16-for-16 on clears.
Three players recorded hat tricks to lead a balanced offensive effort. Grace Rund scored four goals, while Katie Grottenthaler added three goals and an assist. First-year Cat Colvin also tallied three goals. Mia Falco paced the attack with five points on two goals and three assists.
William Smith took control early, breaking a 2-2 tie in the first quarter with a sustained run that gave the Herons a 5-2 lead. The advantage grew in the second quarter as William Smith scored seven consecutive goals to extend the lead to 12-3 and put the game out of reach.
The Herons continued to build on their lead in the second half, maintaining control throughout. Kira Fulton extended her point streak to 24 games, while Colvin scored in her 10th consecutive game.
Defensively, Caitie Baker led the way with four caused turnovers, and Casey Fiore made six saves in goal to anchor the effort.
William Smith returns to action Saturday, April 4, traveling to face the University of Rochester with an 11 a.m. opening draw.
