Hobart lacrosse dropped its Atlantic 10 opener with a 17-7 loss to No. 18 Saint Joseph’s on Saturday afternoon at Urick Stadium.
The Hawks seized control early, scoring four goals in the opening five minutes and carrying that momentum throughout the game. Hobart trailed 4-1 after the first quarter and 8-3 at halftime before Saint Joseph’s broke the game open with a seven-goal third quarter.

Connor DiTomasso and Slade Engstrom each scored twice for the Statesmen, while David Peterkin led the offense with three points on a goal and two assists. Max Snellenburg and Colden Swisher also added goals.
Hobart showed brief momentum in the fourth quarter, opening the period with back-to-back goals from Snellenburg and Engstrom, but Saint Joseph’s answered to maintain control.
Seamus Schofield won eight faceoffs and recorded a game-high seven ground balls, while Colman Craft added an assist, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Michael Johnson made eight saves in the first three quarters, and Brady Smith stopped three shots in relief.
Saint Joseph’s was led by Griffin Mallory, who finished with seven points on two goals and five assists, while Ben Dutton scored four times. The Hawks outshot Hobart 51-32, held a 34-24 edge in ground balls and won the faceoff battle 15-10.
With the loss, Hobart falls to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
The Statesmen return to action Saturday, March 28 against Richmond, with opening draw set for 2 p.m.
