William Smith lacrosse remained unbeaten with an 8-2 victory over St. John Fisher on Wednesday inside the Poole Family Dome, improving to 4-0 on the season.
Cat Colvin led the Herons with two goals while also recording four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Delaney Cassidy and Kira Fulton each finished with a goal and an assist. Katie Grottenthaler, Grace Rund, Taryn Luzi and Charlotte Crocker also scored for William Smith. Goalkeeper Casey Fiore played all 60 minutes and made four saves.

The Herons controlled the game defensively, forcing 20 caused turnovers, their highest total since 2017. Caitie Baker led the effort with five caused turnovers and Janey Sypeck added four as 10 William Smith players recorded at least one. Rund also dominated the draw circle with eight draw controls.
William Smith opened the scoring just over two minutes into the first quarter when Grottenthaler finished a pass from Mia Falco. Cassidy added a free-position goal one minute later to make it 2-0.
The defenses took control for much of the next two quarters before Colvin ended the scoring drought at 11:53 of the third quarter. St. John Fisher briefly cut the deficit to 3-1, but William Smith responded quickly as Colvin and Fulton scored just over a minute apart to extend the lead to 5-1. Rund added another goal late in the quarter.
After St. John Fisher made it 6-2 early in the fourth quarter, Luzi and Crocker scored to close the game.
William Smith held a 31-9 advantage in shots and won the draw battle 11-2.
The Herons return to action Saturday, March 14, when they host Skidmore at 11 a.m. to open Liberty League play.
