Hobart lacrosse rallies to beat Le Moyne

Hobart lacrosse erased a four-goal halftime deficit and surged past Le Moyne 12-7 on Tuesday at Boswell Field at David J. Urick Stadium. The Statesmen outscored the Dolphins 10-1 in the second half and netted the final seven goals to secure the victory.

David Peterkin led the comeback with five points, recording three goals and two assists, all in the second half. Daniel Cano added two goals and an assist, while Gordon Bennett scored twice. First-year goalkeeper Michael Johnson made eight saves to earn the win. On defense, Colman Craft finished with four caused turnovers, three ground balls and an assist.

Le Moyne built an early advantage, scoring three times in the opening quarter and taking a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes. The Dolphins extended their lead in the second quarter with goals from Conner Vaughn and Alec Constable to carry a 6-2 advantage into halftime.

Hobart responded quickly in the third quarter. Peterkin started the rally after Craft forced a turnover and pushed the ball into the offensive zone. Alex Begina scored on a man-up opportunity, and Cano added a goal to cut the deficit to one. After Le Moyne briefly extended the lead, Johnny Harding scored late in the quarter to make it 7-6 entering the fourth.

The Statesmen took control in the final period. Cano tied the game early in the quarter before Connor DiTomasso gave Hobart its first lead moments later. Bennett and Peterkin each scored during a six-goal run that sealed the comeback.

Hobart outshot Le Moyne 49-28 and forced 20 turnovers while committing a season-low 12.

The Statesmen improved to 2-5 and will host Saint Joseph’s on Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m. in their Atlantic 10 opener.
