A lakeside Finger Lakes village has earned national attention for its scenery and vibrant downtown.
Skaneateles was recently included in a list of “10 Small Towns in New York With Big Charm,” highlighting destinations across the state known for scenery, tourism and community character.
The village sits southwest of Syracuse along the shores of Skaneateles Lake. The lake is widely known for its clear water and draws visitors for boating, kayaking and windsurfing.
Boat cruises also give visitors a way to see the shoreline and surrounding Finger Lakes landscape.
Downtown Skaneateles was highlighted as a major attraction. The area features shops, restaurants and wine-tasting locations that bring steady foot traffic to the village.
The article also pointed to local dining and lodging options, including Joelle’s French Bistro, Rosalie’s Cucina and the Mirbeau Inn & Spa.
The village takes its name from an Iroquois word meaning “Long Lake,” referencing the narrow, deep lake that defines the community.
The list featured several small towns across New York known for outdoor recreation, historic sites and distinctive downtown districts.
