Deputies responded to a crash on Gauss Road in East Bloomfield that left one driver dead Saturday afternoon.
James Roger Weisbeck, 88, of East Bloomfield, was the only person in the vehicle, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 1:28 p.m. near 7020 Gauss Road in the town of East Bloomfield. Deputies responded for a reported personal injury crash.
Investigators said Weisbeck was driving a 2024 Tesla westbound on Gauss Road, just west of Ashman Road, when the vehicle left the roadway and drifted into a field on the north side of the road.
The vehicle continued across the field before striking a tree near 7020 Gauss Road. Weisbeck was pronounced dead at the scene.
New York State Police assisted at the scene. Canandaigua Ambulance and fire departments from Bristol, East Bloomfield, Ionia, and Richmond also responded.
Authorities closed Gauss Road from about 1:30 p.m. until approximately 5:30 p.m. while crews investigated and cleared the scene.
