The Honeoye Bulldogs closed out championship weekend at the Blue Cross Arena on Saturday night, holding off York 58-53 in the Class C2 championship to claim their second consecutive sectional title and ninth overall.
No. 2 Honeoye fell behind in the opening minutes but quickly regained control and led at the end of every quarter. The Bulldogs maintained a multi-possession advantage for much of the game before No. 8 York made a late push. The Golden Knights cut the deficit to two with 1:20 remaining, but Honeoye closed the game on a 5-2 run to seal the victory.
The Washburn brothers, Landon and Dylan, powered the Bulldogs offensively, combining for 44 of the team’s 58 points, including 26 of Honeoye’s 29 second-half points. Landon finished with a game-high 29 points and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while Dylan added 15.
Braiden Schneider chipped in eight points in the win, Kyle Schmitt scored six and Garrett Goethals added two.
Dylan Washburn and Schmitt were both named to the All-Tournament Team, while Schneider received the tournament’s sportsmanship award.
Parker Bonefede led York with 17 points while Yeriel Diaz-Pena added 13.
Honeoye improved to 22-2 with the victory and will face Lyons in the Class C Far West Regional qualifier Wednesday at Finger Lakes Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
