BOYS BASKETBALL: Lyons pulls away from Honeoye to advance to Far West Regional

In a long-anticipated rematch, the Lyons Lions and Honeoye Bulldogs met Wednesday night at Finger Lakes Community College in the Class C crossover with a trip to the Far West Regional at Buffalo State on the line.

Lyons, despite trailing after the first and third quarters, pulled away late to defeat Honeoye 70-56 and advance to the Far West Regional for the 13th time in program history and the third time in four years.

Honeoye, which entered the matchup riding a 14-game win streak, came out firing. The Bulldogs built an early 10-point lead and held a seven-point advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Lyons responded in the second quarter, finding its rhythm and outscoring Honeoye 16-3 to take a 27-22 lead into halftime.

The teams battled through a tightly contested third quarter, with Honeoye reclaiming a 47-46 edge heading into the fourth after Landon Washburn banked in a three-pointer as time expired. But Lyons regained control in the final period, outscoring the Bulldogs 24-9 to pull away and secure its second win over Honeoye this season.

Jamire Johnson led Lyons with 27 points. Contrell Parker Jr. added 15, Stephen LeBrecht finished with 11, Stavell LeBrecht scored nine, Jah’Zyree Smith had six, and Ben Bookmiller chipped in two.

Landon Washburn led all scorers with 30 points for Honeoye. Dylan Washburn and Braiden Schneider each added nine, Garrett Goethals scored six and Kyle Schmidtt added two.

Honeoye finishes the season at 22-3, while Lyons (23-2) will face Section IV’s Global Concepts in the Far West Regional on Saturday at Buffalo State College with a 4:30 p.m. tipoff.
