Senate Democrats push back on climate changes

A growing group of New York Senate Democrats is urging Gov. Kathy Hochul not to weaken the state’s landmark climate law, according to Spectrum News 1.

Twenty-nine of the chamber’s 41 Democratic senators signed a letter opposing any rollback of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. State Sen. Liz Krueger, who chairs the powerful Finance Committee, led the effort as budget negotiations intensify in Albany.

The dispute centers on concerns that the law could raise energy costs. Hochul’s administration says changes may be needed to address affordability, while many lawmakers argue the concerns rely on flawed analysis.
