Sabres add defensemen Logan Stanley, Luke Schenn in trade with Jets

The Buffalo Sabres strengthened their defensive depth by acquiring defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn from the Winnipeg Jets, the teams announced early Friday morning. In return, Buffalo sent forward Isak Rosen, defenseman Jacob Bryson, a 2027 second-round draft pick, and the better of its two fourth-round picks in 2026. Winnipeg also retained 50 percent of Schenn’s $2.75 million salary.

The move comes just hours after the Sabres were unable to land Colton Parayko from the St. Louis Blues when the veteran defenseman declined to waive his no-trade clause.

Stanley, 27, arrives in Buffalo during the best offensive season of his career. The 6-foot-7 left-shot defenseman has recorded nine goals and 21 points in 59 games while providing a strong physical presence. He carries a $1.25 million cap hit and is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Schenn, 36, brings veteran leadership and championship experience to the Sabres’ blue line. The right-shot defenseman has one goal and seven points in 46 games this season and previously won two Stanley Cups. He is also scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Buffalo targeted additional defensive depth after exploring other options on the market. The Sabres have relied heavily on top defensemen Rasmus Dahlin, Mattias Samuelsson, Owen Power and Bowen Byram, each of whom ranks among the league leaders in minutes played at the position.

Stanley adds size and toughness to a skilled defensive group, while Schenn provides experience to a roster aiming to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Buffalo’s blue line is expected to become even deeper once Conor Timmins returns from a broken leg later this season.
