A second man involved in a scam targeting an Auburn resident has been sentenced in Cayuga County Court, according to The Citizen.
Mohammad Zaid Zahi Modan, 22, of New Jersey, received a $3,000 fine and a three-year conditional discharge after pleading guilty to attempted grand larceny and conspiracy. Police arrested him and another man in April after they tried to collect $300,000 in gold from a woman in a Wegmans parking lot.
Authorities said scammers posing as Microsoft support and government officials convinced the victim she faced identity theft charges unless she handed over money.
