Helming receives Farm Bureau award

A state lawmaker representing parts of the Finger Lakes has received recognition from the New York Farm Bureau for her work supporting agriculture.

State Sen. Pam Helming was recently presented with the organization’s Farmer’s Voice Award.

The award recognizes state legislators who demonstrate leadership and advocacy on issues important to the agricultural community.

Farm Bureau officials said Helming was selected based on her voting record and work on policies affecting farmers and agribusinesses across New York.

County Farm Bureaus in her district reviewed that record and unanimously supported the recognition, according to Farm Bureau representatives.

Helming represents the 54th Senate District, which includes several rural communities with strong agricultural economies.

Agriculture remains a major part of the region’s economy and identity, with many family farms operating across the district.

Helming said she was honored to receive the recognition and emphasized the importance of agriculture to local communities and the state’s economy.
