Older adults in Yates and Ontario counties will have a chance to check their balance and fall risk during free mobility screenings later this month.
Finger Lakes Health Rehabilitation Services will host the screenings March 19 in Penn Yan and Geneva.
The program is designed for adults 65 and older and evaluates balance, strength, and other factors linked to fall risk.
Screenings will take place at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, 418 N. Main St. in Penn Yan, and at the Garnsey Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at Geneva General Hospital, 196 North St. in Geneva.
Each appointment takes about 30 minutes. Participants will complete tests that measure fall risk, strength deficits, and balance issues compared with others in their age group.
The screenings are offered on the third Thursday of each month in the rehabilitation departments at both locations.
Space is limited, and organizers ask participants to register at least one week in advance.
