A state prison inmate admitted to throwing a cup of toilet water at correction officers and possessing a homemade weapon inside Auburn Correctional Facility.
Nando Hernandez pleaded guilty in Cayuga County Court to aggravated harassment of an employee by an incarcerated individual and promoting prison contraband in the first degree, according to the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.
Hernandez admitted the incident happened Oct. 8, 2024 while he was housed at Auburn Correctional Facility.
Prosecutors said he intentionally threw a cup filled with toilet water at two correction officers.
Authorities also said Hernandez possessed a homemade weapon made from a razor blade on the same date.
He is scheduled to return to court June 2 for sentencing.
Hernandez is expected to receive two to four years in prison on each count. The sentences will run concurrently with each other but consecutively to the prison term he is already serving.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher T. Valdina prosecuted the case.
