Head-on crash in Manchester sends two to hospital

A head-on crash on State Route 96 in Manchester left an 85-year-old driver with serious injuries and sent a second driver to the hospital.

Ontario County sheriff’s deputies responded around 6:49 p.m. Feb. 28 to the intersection of State Route 96 and Kyte Road for a personal injury accident, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies determined Viola J. Yonovich, 85, of Shortsville, was traveling eastbound in a 2020 Subaru when she failed to keep right.

Investigators said her vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2025 Honda SUV driven by Meredith H. Calabretta, 35, of Farmington.

Yonovich became trapped inside her vehicle and was freed by Manchester/Shortsville Fire and Finger Lakes EMS.

She was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with a fractured leg, fractured ribs and a punctured lung.

Calabretta was taken to Thompson Hospital for reported neck and wrist pain.

Deputies issued Yonovich citations for failure to keep right and moving from a lane unsafely. She is scheduled to appear in Manchester Town Court at a later date.
