LATEST: Donations pour in after Palmyra fire, cause remains under investigation

A fundraiser for a Palmyra family displaced by a weekend house fire has raised more than $4,000 in two days.

The GoFundMe campaign, created by Danielle Clark, has brought in $4,122 of a $4,500 goal as of Monday afternoon, with 42 donations.

The fundraiser supports David Clark and his two grandchildren after a fire destroyed their home at 4385 State Route 31 early Saturday morning.

Fire crews from Port Gibson, Palmyra, East Palmyra, Newark, Manchester and Clifton Springs responded to the scene. Officials said everyone inside the home escaped safely and no injuries were reported. The cause remains under investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

In the online fundraiser, Danielle Clark said the fire “completely destroyed their home” and left the family facing the loss of their belongings and mounting expenses.

“My dad does not know where to start while raising his two grandchildren,” she wrote.

According to the campaign page, donations will help cover temporary housing, food and clothing, and other day-to-day living expenses as the family works to rebuild.

As of Monday, the fundraiser had reached 92% of its goal.

The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
