Eighteen terrier-type dogs lived among feces, with little food or water, before rescuers stepped in last fall, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Prosecutors say one defendant will plead guilty Monday in Ontario County Supreme Court. Authorities charged RoseMarie Bruno-Hess and Brian E. Hess with aggravated animal cruelty after investigators found eight dogs in a camper and 10 inside a Geneva home. Officers also discovered eight dead dogs in a freezer.
The Ontario County Humane Society led the investigation and agreed to a plea that gives Bruno-Hess five years’ probation. Some rescued dogs later died. Officials condemned the house and temporarily closed the shelter to care for the animals.
