Bills re-sign special teams standout Sam Franklin Jr. to three-year deal

The Buffalo Bills signed special teams standout Sam Franklin Jr. to a three-year contract Friday afternoon after ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler first reported the deal earlier in the day.

Fowler reported the contract is worth up to $7.5 million.

Franklin, 28, spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers before joining Buffalo last season. He played 329 special teams snaps in 2024, ranking behind only Joe Andreessen and Reggie Gilliam. He recorded 12 tackles but did not force or recover a turnover. Franklin appeared in just six defensive snaps, underscoring his primary value on special teams and Buffalo’s emphasis on continuity in the kicking game.

The Bills have also re-signed restricted free agent offensive lineman Alec Anderson and added defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis. With approximately 20 players still set to reach free agency when the new league year begins March 11, more roster moves are likely.
