Authorities say a jail visit in Romulus led to contraband charges against an inmate and a Varick woman.
Edward L. Carter, 29, was arrested around 4 p.m. Feb. 23 on charges of promoting prison contraband in the second degree and conspiracy in the sixth degree. Carter is currently serving time at the Seneca County Correctional Facility on unrelated charges.
Krystin N. Carter, 38, of Varick, was arrested the next day around 4:23 p.m. on the same charges. Deputies said the arrests followed an investigation into contraband brought into the jail on Feb. 21 around 6:30 p.m.
Corrections staff alerted deputies that contraband had been introduced into the facility. Investigators determined that Krystin Carter possessed and distributed about 20 Zyn nicotine pouches to Edward Carter during contact visitation at the jail.
Correctional staff processed Edward Carter and issued him an appearance ticket. Deputies transported Krystin Carter to the Seneca County Correctional Facility, where she was processed and later released on an appearance ticket.
Both are scheduled to appear in Romulus Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
