Cayuga County lawmakers hit pause again on a proposed ticket surcharge for shows at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, according to The Citizen. Legislators delayed the vote Tuesday as lease talks continue with The Rev Theatre Company, the venue’s main tenant.
Board member Ian Phillips urged the county to keep negotiating and phase in any surcharge so it doesn’t hurt operations. Legislature Chairman Jonathan Anna said the county received a new lease proposal and is reviewing it.
The Rev’s 23-year lease expired in 2023. Leaders say the nonprofit has invested more than $3.2 million in upgrades and draws strong tourism, with many patrons dining and shopping locally. Lawmakers tabled the measure but won’t need another public hearing if they bring it back.
