A $27 million plan to replace 130-year-old water lines in Weedsport just won county backing, according to The Citizen. The Cayuga County Legislature voted Tuesday to seek a $1 million state infrastructure grant for the village’s long-planned upgrade.
Lawmakers chose Weedsport over proposals from Owasco and Sennett after nearly two hours of presentations. Weedsport leaders say the project will replace aging pipes and improve a 450,000-gallon storage tank, while supporting downtown housing growth.
The village has already secured $23 million in state and federal funds but needs about $4 million more to complete the work. The state requires letters of intent weeks before the April 1 deadline. Officials expect to learn later this year whether the grant comes through.
