Two deputies suffered injuries while responding to a house fire in the Village of Homer, according to CNY Central. Officers arrived on James Street Feb. 22 and told a woman to leave the scene for safety as crews battled the blaze.
Kyna K. Malchak then allegedly kicked and punched a female deputy while her dog also attacked the officer. Authorities say she assaulted a second deputy before officers took her into custody. Both deputies received hospital treatment and later went home.
Prosecutors charged Malchak with felony second-degree assault and several misdemeanors, including resisting arrest. A judge set $1,000 cash bail. Investigators are treating the fire as suspicious and continue to review the case.
