Anthony Volpe won’t open the season at shortstop, but he’s already circling his return, according to NorthJersey.com. The Yankees infielder rehabs from left shoulder surgery that could sideline him until May, after doctors discovered a torn labrum worse than early scans showed.
Volpe played through pain most of 2025 after a hard dive in May. He finished with 19 homers but struggled defensively, struck out 150 times and posted a .272 on-base percentage. A Division Series slump against Toronto sealed the decision to operate.
Now pain-free, Volpe has resumed fielding work and started dry swings this week. He says he trusts the rehab process and wants to come back strong for his fourth MLB season.
