Excellus BlueCross BlueShield just earned national recognition for the fourth year in a row.
The Rochester-based nonprofit health insurer ranked No. 67 on Forbes’ 2026 list of America’s Best Midsize Employers. It also placed No. 3 among midsize employers in the insurance industry nationwide.
“We’re honored to be recognized again among the top midsize employers,” said Excellus BCBS President and CEO Jim Reed. “This distinction highlights the strength of our people and our shared commitment to creating an inclusive, collaborative culture that supports our mission to passionately serve our members.”
Forbes partners with Statista Inc., a global statistics and industry ranking provider, to create the annual list.
The ranking draws from an independent survey of more than 217,000 U.S. employees. Those employees work for companies across all industries that employ at least 1,000 people in the United States.
Survey organizers ask respondents to rate employers on key areas like atmosphere, development, compensation, company image, culture, and work environment.
The final rankings rely on two types of feedback. Employees provide personal evaluations of their own workplaces. Friends, family members, and others in the same industry provide public evaluations.
Organizations that make the list show a commitment to creating workplaces where employees can thrive.
Excellus BCBS serves about 1.5 million members across upstate New York. The nonprofit health plan employs more than 4,000 people and offers products and services that include prescription drug discounts, wellness tracking tools, and access to telemedicine.
