A warm bowl of soup, free pet vaccines and bags of fresh food are all on the calendar in the weeks ahead around Canandaigua.
Here’s a look at what’s coming up in late February and early March.
Seniors can warm up with simple soups
A free Senior Luncheon will spotlight “Simple Soups” on February 20.
Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by a presentation at 12:15 p.m. Chef Tony and his assistant Emmy will demonstrate how to “warm the soul with a simple soup.”
The event offers a chance for seniors to gather, enjoy a meal and pick up a few cooking tips along the way.
Free rabies clinic returns in February
Pet owners can get free vaccinations at an upcoming Rabies Prevention Clinic hosted by Ontario County Public Health.
The next clinic runs Saturday, February 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ontario County Public Works facility, 2962 County Road 48 in Canandaigua. Organizers ask people not to arrive before 8:45 a.m.
The clinic serves healthy cats, dogs and ferrets 12 weeks and older. Pets receive vaccines in the order they arrive, and officials encourage pre-registration to speed up check-in.
Dogs must stay on sturdy, non-retractable leashes. Cats must stay in secure carriers, with one cat per carrier. Handlers should limit themselves to four animals.
Organizers will issue a three-year certificate with proof of prior rabies vaccination. Without proof, they will issue a one-year certificate. The clinic is free, though donations are welcome.
Food pantry dates set for February and March
Ontario Cares has also scheduled its Pop-Up Food Pantry for late winter.
The pantry opens at 10 a.m. and runs until food runs out on Mondays. Upcoming dates include February 23 and March 23.
Organizers will distribute food at the Town of Canandaigua Highway Department Barn, 5440 Route 5&20 in Canandaigua. Drivers should enter on Buffalo Street.
The pop-up pantry connects neighbors with fresh food while supplies last, offering another way for residents to get support during the winter months.
