A crashed vehicle in a ditch led deputies to launch a drone — and track down a suspect hiding in the woods.
Billy J. Rumsey, 55, of Manchester, faces multiple charges after deputies found him near State Route 96 in Farmington.
Deputies responded around 9:20 p.m. Feb. 14 to the area of State Route 96 and Payne Road for a report of a vehicle off the roadway.
They arrived and found the vehicle unoccupied. Deputies brought a drone to the scene and used a thermal imaging camera to locate a person standing in nearby woods.
Investigators identified that person as Rumsey. They determined he had operated the vehicle and was impaired.
Deputies charged Rumsey with Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent, Failure to Maintain Lane, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, and DWI.
They also charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree after locating numerous pills on his person.
Deputies transported Rumsey to the Ontario County Jail, where he awaited CAP. He will appear in Farmington Town Court at a later date.
