A neighborhood pharmacy that’s served Ithaca for nearly a century will shut its doors next month, according to 14850.com. The Kinney Drugs on North Cayuga Street will close March 5, ending a run that began in the 1920s under names like Hill Drug Store and North Side Pharmacy.
Company leaders said a lease hike, small retail space, and shrinking pharmacy profits made the location unsustainable. The employee-owned chain, founded in 1903, bought the local Hill Drug stores in 2005.
Kinney will move prescriptions and staff to its Triphammer Marketplace store in Lansing. The closure leaves downtown without a walkable pharmacy for many Northside and Fall Creek residents.
