Hobart basketball ended an eight-game losing streak with a 79-62 Liberty League victory over Clarkson on Saturday afternoon at Bristol Gym, using balanced scoring and a commanding presence on the boards to secure the win.
The Statesmen shot 50.9 percent from the field and outrebounded the Golden Knights by 20, controlling the game’s tempo throughout the second half. Alex Moesch paced Hobart with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Harrison Muntner added 14 points off the bench. Monty Nedd contributed 13 points along with game highs of eight rebounds and five assists, and Niko Lutz added 11 points and two blocked shots in his first career start. Allen Mordi and Gabriel Bergeron chipped in nine and eight points, respectively, while Dorian Paki matched Nedd with eight rebounds.
Hobart opened the game on an 11-0 run and built an early 18-4 lead before Clarkson used a 13-0 surge late in the first half to trim the deficit. The Statesmen carried a 34-32 advantage into halftime.
Clarkson tied the contest twice early in the second half but never led. Consecutive 3-pointers from Bergeron and Moesch helped Hobart break the final tie, and a decisive 14-2 run later in the period extended the margin to double digits. The Golden Knights struggled from long range after halftime, hitting just 1 of 16 attempts from three-point range.
Hobart (12-11, 6-10) will conclude the regular season at home beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, February 20.
