Paramedics in Newark now wear body cameras on calls, a move leaders say boosts safety and transparency, according to RochesterFirst.
Newark Ambulance started testing the cameras in December. President Michael Catalano said supervisors can monitor scenes in real time, flag hazardous addresses and review footage to resolve complaints. He said the agency ranks as the third EMS provider in New York to adopt the technology.
Catalano addressed privacy concerns, saying the agency protects footage under strict safeguards similar to medical records. The service funds the Axon cameras on its own and plans to use them to strengthen accountability and quality assurance across Wayne County.
