The crash of pins has grown quiet across Cayuga County after three bowling alleys closed in five years, according to The Citizen. Only Rainbow Lanes in Weedsport and King Ferry Bowling Center remain, leaving Auburn without a single alley.
Longtime bowlers say the sport once thrived locally, but younger players now choose other activities. Some travel to Syracuse to practice, while others worry families have fewer places to gather.
Owners Ron and Roselyn Rizzo at Rainbow Lanes and Bill Dockstader in King Ferry say loyal leagues keep them going. They’ve added promotions, hosted school teams and welcomed displaced bowlers. Despite the losses, they insist dedicated players still show up — and they believe the sport can survive if the community keeps rolling.
