A top nursing leader at Rochester General Hospital has landed national recognition for her work.
Shari McDonald, vice president and chief nursing officer at Rochester General Hospital, was named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of Hospital and Health System Chief Nursing Officers to Know, Rochester Regional Health announced Feb. 10.
The list highlights nursing leaders across the country who are advancing patient-centered care, workforce excellence, and quality outcomes in hospitals and health systems.
McDonald oversees nursing practice across inpatient, procedural, and ambulatory settings at Rochester General Hospital. She supports more than 1,000 nurses and leads efforts focused on safety, shared governance, professional development, and evidence-based care.
“Shari’s leadership sets the tone for excellence across Rochester General Hospital,” said Tammy Snyder, president of Rochester General Hospital. “She leads with clarity, humility, and deep respect for nursing, empowering teams to deliver exceptional care for our community every day.”
Under McDonald’s leadership, Rochester General Hospital earned its fifth Magnet designation, a distinction held by fewer than one percent of hospitals nationwide. The recognition reflects sustained excellence in nursing practice, patient outcomes, and organizational culture.
“I’m grateful for this recognition, but it truly belongs to our nurses,” McDonald said. “Their skill, compassion, and commitment are what make Rochester General Hospital a place where patients and families can trust they’ll receive outstanding care.”
Becker’s Hospital Review publishes the CNOs to Know list annually, recognizing leaders whose work is shaping the future of healthcare through innovation, workforce development, and measurable improvements.
