Hobart hockey maintained its dominant season with a 6-1 victory over No. 6 Oswego in a SUNYAC matchup Friday evening at The Cooler, extending its home win streak to 63 games and matching the collegiate record set by Cornell in 1972.
Senior Kahlil Fontana and sophomore Easton Ryan each scored twice to lead the top-ranked Statesmen, while senior Tanner Daniels recorded three points with a goal and two assists. Senior goaltender Damon Beaver made 16 saves to earn his 14th win of the season as Hobart improved to 21-0-0 overall and 14-0-0 in conference play.
Hobart struck first late in the opening period when Fontana redirected a centering pass for the game’s first goal. Daniels followed with a power-play tally minutes later to give the Statesmen a 2-0 lead after one period.
Ryan extended the advantage less than a minute into the second period with another power-play goal. Oswego briefly cut the deficit to 3-1 early in the middle frame, but Hobart quickly responded with three additional goals, including Fontana’s second of the night and another score from Ryan, to put the game out of reach.
The Statesmen controlled play throughout, finishing with a 43-17 advantage in shots on goal and converting twice on five power-play opportunities while holding the Lakers scoreless on three chances.
The win also pushed Hobart’s overall win streak to 27 games and its unbeaten streak to 34 games.
Hobart returns to action Friday, February 13, traveling to Morrisville for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
