Deepfakes threaten courtroom trust

A suspicious video in a California case exposed a growing legal nightmare, according to WSTM’s 7News, as courts struggle to spot AI-generated deepfakes before they sway judges and juries.

Security experts say the technology now looks and sounds real, making fake evidence harder to catch. Brian Long, CEO of Adaptive Security, warns courts lack reliable tools to verify video authenticity and may already face undetected fakes.

Judges acknowledge the risk. Anna Blackburne-Rigsby says AI raises new doubts about fairness and public trust, pushing courts to rethink evidence rules, chain-of-custody standards, and reliance on in-person testimony.
