Ithaca wants more control over where its energy comes from — and how green it is — according to The Ithaca Voice.
The City of Ithaca is updating its Community Choice Aggregation law and rolling out a new Distributed Energy Resources program, letting residents opt into local renewable projects like community solar, heat pumps, and EV charging. Together, the plans aim to cut emissions and lower costs while keeping NYSEG’s infrastructure in place.
City leaders frame the move as a key step toward the Ithaca Green New Deal, which targets carbon neutrality by 2030 — a goal officials admit remains challenging.
The Common Council plans a final vote Feb. 4, with programs expected to launch in September.
