A new community coalition formed days after Micron broke ground is demanding binding promises tied to the massive chip project, according to Spectrum News 1.
The group, CNY United for Community Benefits, wants Micron to sign a legally enforceable Community Benefits Agreement covering jobs, workforce diversity, and environmental protections. Members argue Micron’s pledges mean little without contracts, especially as the company receives hundreds of millions in tax breaks.
Micron says it has already invested $15 million locally and plans to hire mostly local labor. But coalition leaders say underserved communities could still get left out.
They’ve asked CEO Sanjay Mehrotra to negotiate. Talks haven’t started.
