A routine drive through a Hopewell intersection ended in a crash that sent a sheriff’s deputy to the hospital Monday morning.
The crash happened around 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of Freshour Road and County Road 46, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said a 77-year-old Canandaigua woman, Grace Perry, sat stopped on Freshour Road facing northbound as a marked patrol vehicle approached from the east. The patrol car was driven by Deputy Robert Holland, 61, also of Canandaigua.
As Holland crossed the intersection while traveling westbound on County Road 46, Perry accelerated and struck the rear of the patrol vehicle, deputies said. The impact damaged the back of the sheriff’s car and the front of Perry’s vehicle.
Holland was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital by other deputies. Doctors later cleared him with minor injuries. Perry was not hurt.
Deputy Miller investigated the crash with assistance from Sgt. Griffin and Investigator Colburn, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office did not release additional details about contributing factors.
