A Bath man was arrested early Sunday morning following a reported domestic incident on West Morris Street that left a woman injured, according to police.
Officers with the Village of Bath Police Department were dispatched to a residence around 4:53 a.m. Jan. 26 for a report of a domestic incident in progress. When officers arrived, they entered the home and made contact with a female victim who appeared to be injured, as well as the suspect, identified as Robert E.M. Wright, 43, of Bath.
Police said that as officers attempted to detain Wright for further investigation, he physically resisted. A drive stun Taser was deployed for pain compliance, but Wright continued to resist. After a brief struggle, he was placed in handcuffs and continued to physically resist until backup officers arrived and assisted in securing him in a patrol vehicle.
An investigation determined that Wright had choked the victim prior to police arrival.
Wright was arrested and charged with obstructing governmental administration, criminal obstruction of breathing, and resisting arrest, all Class A misdemeanors.
He was processed and transported to the Steuben County Jail for CAP arraignment, where police said he remains held with the opportunity for bail.
The Village of Bath Police Department thanked the New York State Police and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the case.
