Top-ranked Hobart hockey continued its perfect season Friday night with a 5-1 SUNYAC victory over Canton at The Cooler. The Statesmen improved to 19-0-0 overall and 12-0-0 in conference play, extending both their winning and unbeaten streaks.

Hobart set the tone early, scoring 74 seconds into the game and adding another goal just over four minutes later to seize a 2-0 lead. The Statesmen controlled play throughout, finishing with a 48-29 advantage in shots on goal.
Kahlil Fontana led Hobart with a goal and two assists, while Tanner Daniels recorded a goal and an assist. Arvega Hovsepyan added two assists as Hobart’s top line produced consistently throughout the night. Damon Beaver anchored the win in goal, turning aside a season-high 28 shots.
Canton cut into the lead midway through the second period, ending Hobart’s shutout bid, but the Statesmen responded quickly. Daniels restored the two-goal cushion later in the period, and Hobart pulled away in the third with goals from Conor Lally and Adam Mendelson to close out the scoring.
Hobart remained disciplined defensively and on special teams, killing off all three Canton power plays. The Statesmen also maintained pressure offensively, forcing Canton goaltender Trey Miller to make 43 saves to keep the game within reach.
With the victory, Hobart extended its win streak to 25 games and its unbeaten streak to 32, while also stretching its home win streak to 61 games.
Hobart returns to action Saturday, January 31, hosting Potsdam at The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
