Becker family history to headline Seneca Falls Historical Society dinner

The Seneca Falls Historical Society will mark a milestone in its history with a special presentation highlighting the family that once called the Becker Mansion home.

SFHS Executive Director Jonathan Monfiletto will present “The Beckers: The Family, Their Home, Their Help and How SFHS Fits Into Their Story” during the society’s 64th Annual General Meeting and Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 21.

The program commemorates the 65th anniversary of the historical society’s purchase of the Becker Mansion at 55 Cayuga St., a three-story Queen Anne–style brick home built in the late 19th century.

Norman and Catherine Becker moved into the mansion with their six children in the summer of 1891. In May 1961, Florence Becker, the fourth of the family’s eldest daughters, sold the home to the Seneca Falls Historical Society, giving the organization its longtime headquarters.

Monfiletto’s presentation will explore the Becker family, their home, the servants who helped maintain the household, and the role the historical society has played in preserving the property and its history.

The annual meeting and dinner will be held at The Lux Hotel and Conference Center, 2468 State Route 414 in Waterloo. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with check-in and hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner at 6 p.m.

The buffet menu includes sliced roast beef with au jus, herb- and cracker-encrusted cod, and eggplant parmesan.

The society’s annual business meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the presentation to follow. A silent auction and live auction will also take place during the event.

Tickets cost $70 per person. Reservations must be made by Friday, Feb. 6, by calling (315) 568-8412.
