Seneca County backs $10M housing plan

Seneca County leaders just approved a 10-year, $10 million housing strategy aimed at fixing a market that’s scaring off middle-income buyers, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

Unlike many places, Seneca’s challenge isn’t affordability for low-income residents — it’s the lack of quality homes for buyers with more to spend. A planner told the county committee that most available public funds target low-income builds, while middle-income housing sees little private investment.

The plan now heads to the full board. If passed, it would create a housing trust fund to help developers and homeowners — without triggering higher property assessments.
