A group of 75 House Democrats wants the State Department to reverse its sudden halt on immigrant visa processing for 75 countries, according to Spectrum News.
New York Reps. Ritchie Torres and Yvette Clarke say the policy could slash legal immigration in half and unfairly targets immigrants from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. They’re demanding a cost-benefit analysis by Feb. 20 and calling the freeze discriminatory.
The Trump administration claims the pause helps prevent immigrants likely to need public assistance — but critics say the logic doesn’t hold up.
