Auburn steel built America’s icons

Steel made in Auburn now supports some of the nation’s most recognizable structures, according to The Citizen.

The York Street mill, now owned by Nucor, has produced steel for 50 years and employs about 280 workers. Each year, the plant turns out roughly 420,000 tons of rebar and specialty steel, shipping products across the Northeast by truck and rail.

That Auburn-made steel helped build One World Trade Center, the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, and the new Highmark Stadium, future home of the Buffalo Bills. Nucor remains the only steel manufacturer left in New York.
