Fire crews from across the region spent hours battling a house fire Monday morning at a rural Middlesex home.
Deputies said Chester H. Hoover, 21, and Marlene N. Hoover, 21, were inside the home on Maxwell Road when a chimney fire started around 10:23 a.m. Both occupants escaped safely, and no injuries were reported.
The fire broke out at a two-story, single-family home at 841 Maxwell Road in the Town of Middlesex. Investigators determined the blaze started as a chimney fire connected to a wood stove.
Crews remained on scene for several hours as they worked to control the fire and secure the structure. The home sustained heavy damage.
Multiple fire departments responded, including Middlesex, Rushville, Potter, Benton, Branchport, Penn Yan, Crystal Beach and Naples. Additional departments stood by to assist.
Middlesex Ambulance and the Offices of Emergency Services from Yates and Ontario counties also responded. Deputy C. Hansen handled the investigation.
