Jordan-Elbridge students earn 16 art awards

A strong showing from Jordan-Elbridge High School put student artwork in the regional spotlight this winter.

Ten students earned a total of 16 honors through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, one of the nation’s most respected programs for young artists.

The awards recognize creative work by students in grades 7 through 12 and judge entries on originality, technical skill, and personal voice. Gold Key winners advance to national-level judging.

Alyssa Curfman earned three honors, including a Gold Key, a Silver Key, and an Honorable Mention. Ceanna Compo and Ellie Brim each received two awards, including Gold Keys.

Emily Curry, Lilyana Stevenson, and Sarah Love each earned Gold Keys. Caitlyn Ryan received two Honorable Mentions, while Natalee Emig and Riley Howell each earned Honorable Mentions. Lanora Smith earned a Silver Key.

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards remains the longest-running recognition program for creative students in the country.

Jordan-Elbridge art teacher Terry Bondgren praised the students’ work and growth.

“These awards highlight the creativity, dedication and artistic growth of our students,” Bondgren said. “Their success reflects the strong culture of creativity we strive to build at Jordan-Elbridge.”

District officials congratulated all participating students for representing the school and community through the arts.
