Yates County is looking to fill key public safety roles as the Sheriff’s Office opens hiring for emergency services dispatchers and corrections officers.
The openings include full-time emergency services dispatcher positions with a starting pay of $26.31 per hour under the 2026 contract. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and live in Yates County or a neighboring county at the time of employment.
Appointments for dispatcher positions depend on passing a background check, medical examination with specific hearing standards, and psychological testing.
The Sheriff’s Office is also hiring corrections officers for both full-time and part-time roles. Full-time corrections officers start at $27.02 per hour, while part-time positions start at $23.99 per hour. The full-time rate increases to $28.43 per hour after the first year.
Corrections officer applicants must be United States citizens, at least 18 years old, possess a valid New York State driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Residency in Yates County or a contiguous county is required at the time of employment.
Candidates must pass a physical fitness test, medical examination, and psychological testing. Those hired must also complete New York State Basic Correction School and peace officer training within their first year, which the agency provides.
Applications for both positions are available through the Yates County Civil Service website at mycivilservice.yatescountyny.gov.
