Prosecutor named chief assistant in Ontario County

A longtime felony prosecutor will soon take on a top leadership role in the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office.

District Attorney Jason MacBride announced that Sara S. Van Strydonck will join the office next week as chief assistant district attorney.

Van Strydonck brings more than 20 years of prosecutorial experience to the position. She most recently served as an assistant district attorney in Monroe County, where she held several senior leadership roles, including bureau chief in the Special Victims Unit.

Her career has focused on complex felony cases involving child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and homicide. She also supervised and mentored prosecutors handling high-stakes trials.

In her new role, Van Strydonck will serve on the office’s executive leadership team. She will work closely with First Assistant District Attorney James Nobles to oversee legal operations and support attorneys and staff across the county.

“Sara Van Strydonck is an exceptional prosecutor and proven leader,” MacBride said. “Her depth of experience, particularly in supervising complex felony prosecutions and working collaboratively with law enforcement and community partners, will be an enormous asset to our office.”

Van Strydonck earned her law degree cum laude from the University at Buffalo School of Law and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan. She is admitted to practice law in New York and has received multiple statewide awards for her work advocating for children and crime victims.

MacBride said her appointment reflects the office’s commitment to experienced leadership and high standards of public service.
