Seneca DA: Deputy quit after DUI probe

A breath test that suggested a patrol car may have been driven drunk didn’t lead to charges, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The incident surfaced after a former Seneca County sheriff’s deputy resigned days later.

The May 2025 case involved a road patrol deputy who showed an odor of alcohol but passed field sobriety tests, Sheriff Tim Thompson said. An administrative breath test later showed a 0.10% BAC, but officials said flawed testing made it unusable in court.

District Attorney John Nabinger said investigators lacked probable cause to prosecute. The deputy went on administrative leave, then resigned four days later with union representation.

Thompson said the office planned discipline but accepted the resignation to resolve the matter quickly.
